It's been ages since I've done one of these. Of course, it's been ages since I last saw a film.
Briar was in town briefly this weekend and yesterday was Justine's 22nd birthday so I bullied took them to the Regal to see The Lake House. We loved it!
The reviews of the film were all over the place but Roger Ebert nailed it. He said,
"It succeeds despite being based on two paradoxes: time travel, and the ability of two people to have conversations that are, under the terms established by the film, impossible. Neither one of these problems bothered me in the slightest. Take time travel: I used to get distracted by its logical flaws and contradictory time lines. Now in my wisdom I have decided to simply accept it as a premise, no questions asked. A time travel story works on emotional, not temporal, logic."
and,
"They also have the same dog. Never mind, I tell you, never mind! I think, actually, that I have the answer to how the same dog could belong to two people separated by two years, but if I told you, I would have to shoot the dog."
Ebert's point is to not overthink The Lake House. Just go with the flow and you'll love the story. As a bonus, David Auburn, the screenwriter, was smart enough to give Keanu Reeves lines that consisted mostly of 6 words or less.
I love time travel movies, and one of my favorite recent books was the Time Traveler's Wife. I do try to overthink the logic sometimes, which can ruin the story.

I echo Margaret. And if you really enjoy time travel stories and some romance, pick up Diana Gabaldon's books. Awesome reads. They're in order though so if you do look for them, start with the first book. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the first book is called. Doh!
Anyway, I can't wait to see The Lake House. Glad it's got good reviews. Sandra and Keanu are huge favs of mine so this is must see!
A belated Happy Birthday to Justine! :)

No promises but I'll give Diana Gabaldon a try.

The first Gabaldon book is, I think, Outlander.

Sounds interesting. Try "Winter Passing" with Ed Harris - not a bad movie either.

To reply to Margaret, I have the Time Traveler's Wife and found it very enjoyable. One of many books I refuse to give away. LOL
