I think one of the biggest victims of the end of the cold war was John le Carre. He lost his enemy and his focus. With the rise of the oligarghs in Russia he seems to be back on track. Our Kind of Traitor isn't Smiley but it gives me hope.

Used to love LeCarre! I read lots of Brit mystery writers. I'm enjoying Rankin's new detective. He's different from Rebus, but interesting in his own way.
