A Public Service Announcement for Betas
All of us want readers. If not, we'd scribble in a journal and keep it hidden in our underwear drawer. I'm new at this but I've discovered some ways we can attract readers.
Let Goggle know you exist. Go here and follow the directions.
Sign up with Technorati. This is one of the most useful blog tools available.
Sign up with Blogdex.
Sign up for the Ecosystem at The Truth Laid Bear. When you are brave enough, sign up for the TTLB New Blog Showcase. Fellow Beta The Poison Kitchen did and won!
Enter something in the Carnival of the Vanities. Da Goddess hosted this week (sorry for the late link, Joanie) and Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics hosts next week. For a full schedule, go to Silflay Hraka.
Post often. That keeps you on various update lists, including our own Beta one.
Don't abuse it, but link to, and comment on, posts by other bloggers you enjoy reading. Make sure to include their trackback URLs in the box provided. They may visit to see what you said about them and, if they like what they see, they may eventually link to you and send you readers.
If anyone has any other helpful hints, leave a comment or email me so that I can spread the word.
Nice post - I'll try some of these out. I posted part of an article on a newsgroup, and someone picked it up to post on a forum somewhere else, and, well, it's been a good hit day.

Don't forget-
http://blo.gs/
This is like weblogs.com and Typepad has a button that lets you update to them automatically.

Mike:
Another suggestion. When you go to read your favourite blogs, connect to them from your own blogroll or a link on one of your own posts. That gives them more of a trail of bread crumbs to follow back to you than if you'd hit them from your browser Favourites.

I have a good one. Make your RSS syndication link easy to find.
This way people trying to add you to their aggregators/blogroll will
be less likely to give up and move on.

As well, you should look at Feedster, the RSS search engine.

Thank you thank you for this excellent help. I just started my blog this week and really had little ideas on how to generate traffic. I guess I'm actually a little more concerned about the ability to get repeat traffic, but one thing at a time!
I really appreciate the info.
